VISION FOR AUSTRALIA
"THE CAN DO COUNTRY"
Mission Statement: Vision for Australia (V4A) is an apolitical movement formed to focus attention and compel action on important social, economic, infrastructure and environmental issues which are desirable and doable today but will be exponentially harder, maybe even insurmountable if further deferred to the next generation.
"Vision for Australia is the voice of your grandchildren. Speak-up now because by the time it’s their turn, it’ll be too late."
What does it stand for?
It stands for being the best we can be. For striving to achieve great things. It stands for setting targets and sticking to them. It stands for having the courage to back ourselves and take big risks. Mostly though it stands for you and I taking more of the responsibility today in order that the outcomes for our children are predictable and not the result of a series of short-term policies rolled out in order to win the next election.
What does the "Can Do" Country mean?
The Can Do Country stands for getting-in and getting the job done, no matter what. It represents the attitude we need to regain our confidence and become one of the top three nations in the world. In what? How about engineering, medicine and curing so-called incurable diseases, social justice, entrepreneurship, swimming (what happened there?), football, statesmanship. In fact, whatever we decide. We need to become the nation known for aspiring to great visions then making them happen. We need a plan for the future, a bold vision which inspires us, and our children, and we need it now.
How Does it Work?
Our current set of active issues are called "Stands." They're posted on this site and at Facebook and on our Blog. Review them and see which, if any, are important to you. You’re invited to join in the discussion around specific stands and vote in the polls*. This is called Taking a Stand.
Alternatively you can choose to Make a Stand, that is register your own Active Issue relevant to the long-term future of Australia. Here you'll be able to Make a Stand, facilitate discussion and manage a poll**.
For too long Australia has been meandering without vision or clear purpose further and further down the road of homogenisation, political correctness and mediocrity. It makes me mad. All cars look the same today and without a clear vision of who we are, what we stand for and aspire to, Australia risks becoming another commodification nation. Mateship and a fair-go can sometimes seem like out-dated ideals but they’re trademarks of our culture and they prove to us that we’re worthy and capable of great aspirations. I could be wrong but I believe that at least 51% of Aussies want an Australia that is unique, extraordinary, diverse, compassionate and is imbued with the Can Do Aussie spirit. If you're a Czechoslovakian, Russian, Irish, Indian, Greek, Japanese, Chinese, Iraqi, New Zealand, South African, Tibetan, English, American or Canadian Australian who believes that we, you and me, now need to take charge of making the difficult decisions and deciding that we’ll endeavour to do some great things, things that we might not even see the benefits from in our lifetimes, then I invite you to participate in this most important of causes, the creation and implementation of a long-term Vision for Australia.
Vision for Australia is a issues-based movement founded specifically to empower the Australian people to more directly influence the important long-term decisions which will shape our future and, to hold those in-charge accountable for getting them done. It is a forum for national debate leading to resolute action.
* Moderated and subject to the specifics of each Stand; factors such age.
